THE BUTTERFLY CLUB
For children with severe, complex and profound learning disabilities
Welcome to The Butterfly Club
The Butterfly Club aims to provide a holiday club for the children of James MacFarlane and Haysholm special needs schools to reduce their isolation, improve their quality of life and to support them to be able to take part in activities other children take for granted. We are a constituted, non-profit making voluntary community group and a registered charity, formed by the parents of these schools.
SUMMER CLUB 2015
Everything is all in place for this years summer club after many months of meetings, planning and interviews as well as a full week of training for the staff. The club was so popular this year we now have 3 groups (2 juniors and 1 senior group). Each child will have a "dream day" where they can choose whatever activity they want and will have 2 staff members to support them on their outing. These range from visit an amusement park, take a ride on the ferry, have a pamper day or a day at the swimming pool.
We have some great activities organised including the ever popular day at Castle Semple where the children will experience a trip on a speedboat, visit Fun World soft-play and Battery Park, All ability cycles followed by a visit to Dean Park, a visit by Hoot Owls and sensory walks with the park rangers at Eglinton Park all lined up to keep them entertained during the summer. If the weather is unkind to us wee have use of the hyrdro therapy pool, sensory room, sensory garden and lots of sensory activities to have fun with in school.
Fundraising Continues .....
As we end our summer club 2015 we need to start thinking about fundraising for summer 2016. We only need £65K for next year lol no pressure. The fundraising committee will be having a meeting soon to discuss forthcoming events. Don't worry we will keep you all up-to-date.
If you would like to help raise funds, organise events or donate to The Butterfly Club, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the committee, through our Twitter & Facebook page or Donate through MyDonate BT funding page.
We have been very successful in the grants we applied for this year. Without these grants it would be impossible to run the summer club. Also a huge thank you to "Granny" Moira for all her hard work and commitment to help us with the grant process. Below are the grants we applied:
Henry Duncan/Lloyd's TSB Awards - £3,000
Better Breaks/Shared Care Scotland - £15,000
Lottery Awards For All - £6,227
Asda: Foundation For Scotland - £1,316
The Robertson Trust - £4,000
Children In Need - £17,031
Community Development Grant - £857.75
Sainsbury's - Unsuccessful
We are starting to apply for grants for next years summer club and will update as soon as possible.
If you could spare some time the urgently require more volunteers to help with the fundraising team. We meet every month in the evenings for a couple of hours.
